I have once visited a restaurant that was decorated in a very modern manner: it seemed spotlessly clean and it had that abundance of space that public places tend to have nowadays. Normally I prefer a more cosy interior, one which creates an atmosphere of privacy or even intimacy. It makes me feel like I can hide from other guests and stop worrying about them looking at me. This place was brightly lit, had spotless white walls and beige leather couches and armchairs. There was definitely no place for me to hide. Nevertheless, I really liked that particular restaurant and it was because of its colourful worktops. It seemed as though they come in all the colours of the rainbow: they were red, blue, green, pink, purple and orange. A true spectrum of shades.
